Description
Maheshwari Cotton/ Silk Weaves- originated in the 18th century in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, initiated by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar around 1770 to create lightweight, elegant garments for royalty. Inspired by local fort architecture, these handloom sarees are characterized by reversible borders, geometric motifs (checks, diamonds), a silk-cotton blend, and a 300-year legacy. The patterns are directly inspired by the carvings on the Maheshwar fort, including Heera(diamond), Eent (brick), Chatai (mat), and Leheriya (waves). Maheshwari sarees are cherished for their light weight and blend of tradition and comfort, making them popular for daily wear as well as formal occasions
